Staff Love Gift
It is that time of year when the congregation of Grace traditionally expresses its appreciation for our dedicated staff. In a tangible way, we can thank the folks who lead our church by contributing to the annual Staff Love Gift. It is appropriate as we celebrate Advent and Christmas to remember our pastoral staff as well as those who keep our church clean, who care for our children in the nursery, who pay our bills, who stream our services, and who do all the things that make our church so special.
The Personnel Commission and our financial team ask that all gifts be received by the Third Sunday of Advent, December 15. Gifts may be mailed to the church, put in the offering plate, or made online. Be sure to designate your contribution to the Staff Love Gift.
On behalf of the Personnel Commission, thank you for the support you show to our staff.
Central Virginia Masterworks Chorale Concert at GBC
December 13, 2024: Blessing of Winter
In December 2024, the Central Virginia Masterworks Chorale will present a seasonal program of three beautiful works: Francis Poulenc’s “Gloria” with a soprano soloist and organ accompaniment, Sarah Quartel’s “A Winter Day” scored for piano and cello, and “A Light in the Stable” by Alan Bullard with organ accompaniment.
The Poulenc is one of the major works of the twentieth century choral repertoire, commissioned by the Koussevitsky Foundation in honor of Sergei Koussevitzky and his wife Natalia; it offers a captivating mixture of solemnity and mischievous exuberance. Each movement of Quartel’s work depicts a different time of day, beginning with the cold darkness before dawn and concluding with the evening turning into dusk and then darkness. The music conjures up vivid images of a cold and crisp winter, and of swirling, dancing snowflakes. Bullard’s work tells the Christmas story with a combination of original music and familiar carols, including audience sing-along opportunities using familiar tunes.
The performance will be held at Grace on Friday, December 13 at 7:30 pm. Adult tickets are $20 and student tickets are $10. We encourage advance purchases so that you can print tickets at home, pick them up at the performance (Will Call), or have tickets sent to you. Tickets Can be purchased online at https://cvamc.org/performances/tickets/
